Fleetwood - Marine Beach
Marine Beach - Fleetwood
Please use the area to the left of the large flagpole (West) when the beach is busy, the lifeguards operate on the right side (East) side of the beach in summer, if you're unsure please check in with the shop.
Land Kiting
This beach is directly in front of the shop and offers some interesting features. The top of the beach is loose and rocky and not great for wheels but further out the pebbles give way to hard packed sand which is great for buggy / landboard and powerkite. Be sure to check the tides though as the beach can wash out quickley. The beach faces North and a Northerly wind works best allowing you to travel accross the beach.
In summer please don't buggy / landboard / powerkite infront of the Lifeguard station as we try to keep this clear for families enjoying the beach.
You can also get out onto the sand bar if you don't mind getting wet! the sand on the bar is awsome, dry, packed and smooth (unless there have been violent storms) getting there though is like travelling accross the surface of the moon! Not for the faint hearted but an awsome expedition, just make sure you check in at the shop though as it is possible to get caught out by the tides!

Kitesurfing
Kitesurfing at Fleetwood can be amazing if the wind is from the W, NW, N, NE, E and it offers one of the few beaches that works on an Easterly.
At High tide the water can be really messy and wavey but it only lasts for an hour or so either side of high tide. Before & after that it is sheltered by the sand bar and goes pretty flat if not buttery smooth! Watch out for ultra high tides as the beach loses any safe launching / landing space.

Caution!
There can be a tidal rip travelling at approximatley 8 knotts in an Easterly direction (out to sea, towards the Isle of Man) if the wind is also from the East the combined effect can have dramatic consequences. Better to surf on the incoming tide in these conditions or the channel if your competent.
The only time Fleetwood is a busy beach is on Easterly winds, if you're new to kitesurfing and taking those first tentative steps come on a NW or NE wind as the flat shallow water is hard to beat, best times are 2 hours before or after high tide!
